An Internet Marketer’s Introduction to Offline Marketing Skills

The internet is a powerful marketing medium but it is only one of many. It is illogical for you to restrict yourself to only the internet if you are in it to make a large amount of money. Your business will never grow past a certain mark if you limit your efforts to the internet; the internet is convenient but you have to step out of your comfort zone.

True marketing includes any advertising channels that can generate leads and buyers at a profit so if you are not including offline marketing then you aren’t doing what real marketers do. Making sales is not an option when it comes to running a business so don’t exclude any marketing opportunities. So this means branching out to the offline market. Offline marketing is very simple and you see it all around you; lets look at a few examples.

Place an ad in a magazine that focuses on your market. Mostly all topical magazines run a classified ad section. These ads are inexpensive. One of the best reasons to choose magazine classified advertising is that, unlike newspaper classifieds where people never read every ad, magazine readers are usually big enough fans that they actually do read every classified ad in the back of the magazine. What you are accomplishing with this is gaining exposure from potential buyers who already have an interest in your niche. Your sales will go through the roof if you go out and make this work.

Try leaving your business card in books at the library. One tactic is to strategically place your cards in library and bookstore books that are related to your site’s topic. These places don’t want you doing this but if you are in a larger building then you will probably go unnoticed. Don’t worry – you probably won’t get in too much trouble if you get caught – probably nothing more than a strongly worded warning!

Pens cans work wonders with your ads. To find companies that will print your URL on your pens just do a search online or in your local phone book. Once you start distributing them you will quickly find out how easy they are to get rid of. Use it when you write a check or sign a credit card slip at the grocery store and then “forget” to put it back in your bag. You can even put some on the benches where people wait to catch the city bus. Your public library is another good spot; don’t be afraid to walk up to someone and hand it to them. Everybody likes getting free pens!

There are so many ways to market your business to an offline clientele. Once you open your mind and start thinking as a marketer then ideas will flow to you. Your imagination coupled with offline marketing are ingredients that will take you past any realistic goal that you set. Most people don’t like to do business online but perhaps you can advertise a product or service that is in demand but not easy to come by in the local area. If you can learn to use other mediums along with the internet to create a far reaching system then you are starting to get a feel of what marketing is all about. Online advertising won’t always supply you with fresh and stable traffic sources that you need to sustain and grow a profitable business. If you want to join to ranks of the marketing elite then you should give offline marketing some serious consideration.
